With a student body of more than 32,000 and four campuses in Central Florida, Seminole State College of Florida unveils “Seminole State Text”, which is a customized mobile messaging program utilizing the imediaReach® technology platform. Above and beyond baseline emergency text alerts, “Seminole State Text” is fully-customized and integrated into the admission and enrollment data system to advise students with important deadlines and key enrollment, academic, and financial reminders.
“This is the next generation of MassComm using technology for administrative and educational purposes with an increased conversion of applicants to enrolled students as well as classroom instruction,” said Dick Hamann, vice president of technology and resources / chief information officer for Seminole State. “We are leveraging technology for a strategic competitive advantage.”
The new offer features customized messages for registration dates, tuition deadlines, financial aid, emergency campus closings, and changes to student records or classes provide a quick connection to students in a familiar, convenient, and often preferred communication format. Studies have shown that up to 98 percent of college students have cell phones with 90 percent of these cell phone owners using SMS texting on a regular basis.
Only admitted students and employees may enroll in *Seminole State Text* using their user name and password. A well-defined system of checks and balances ensures the privacy of the user’s name and cell phone number so it is strictly protected and not shared with any other party. The next phase of “Seminole State Text” includes a pilot program of 10 classrooms to utilize the text message program with customized messages from the professor to participating students with important academic reminders related to coursework such as deadlines and resources.
