Orlando Magic Plan $100M Downtown Complex

The Orlando Magic have launched a $2 million-plus study to try and map out an entertainment complex similar to those near arenas in Nashville, Memphis and elsewhere around the country. The complex would transform the north side of Church Street between Hughey and Division avenues, but it would also mean tearing down some businesses.
The Magic would spend roughly $100 million to level the city’s parking garage and the buildings that now are home to 11 businesses. The Magic subsidized rent for some of the businesses during arena construction, but those business owners worry the menu of new restaurants, bars, stores and other entertainment venues will not include them. Without saying how high the rent prices might be, Orlando Magic President Alex Martins said “viable businesses” on Church Street would be able to call the new complex home.
