September 9, 2011, 1:23 am
The Museum of Florida Art has two events this weekend: A new exhibit opens Friday, Sept. 9, and a September Family Day takes place on Saturday, Sept. 10. “Behind the Scenes: A Celebration and Passion for Art” will be on exhibit from Sept. 9 to Oct. 30 in the Lower Main Gallery at the Museum of Florida Art.
From the exhibit announcement: In every art museum there are artists working behind the scenes. Their passion for art is channeled into additional administrative and support rolls at that facility. The “Behind the Scenes” exhibit celebrates the creative works of artists who are actively engaged in the day-to-day operation of the Museum of Florida Art. A special reception will take place at the museum to celebrate the exhibit on Friday, Sept. 23, from 5 to 7 p.m.
Featured in this exhibition are: Pam Coffman, education curator; David Fithian, exhibition coordinator; Tim Gearheart, gallery technician; Dan Gunderson, board member; Charon Luebbers, Exhibition Committee member; Fran Massey, board member; Diane Moore, guild president; Carey Wilson, event specialist; and Anna Tomczak, exhibition committee member.
Family Day will be 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10. This program occurs on the second Saturday of each month during periods with scheduled exhibitions. Families and visitors of all ages are invited to engage their imaginations and spend time together enjoying Florida art and artists.
The Museum of Florida Art is at 600 N. Woodland Blvd., DeLand. More information: 386-734-4371
