Orlando Predators to name Winter Park grad Bret Munsey as coach

August 19, 2011, 12:34 am

Bret Munsey, a former Orlando Predators player and assistant coach, is expected to be announced as the new head coach of Central Florida’s Arena Football League team Friday. Munsey, 42, will become the fifth head coach in franchise history. He will replace Pat O’Hara, who was dismissed by the Preds on Aug. 1 after two seasons. He has since been appointed coach of the AFL’s New Orleans VooDoo.

Munsey attended Winter Park High and was a wide receiver/defensive back for the Preds after playing for Concord College in West Virginia. He led the Philadelphia Soul to the ArenaBowl championship in 2008. His record in three seasons as the Soul’s coach was 35-20.

The Preds will hold a postseason party for fans 21 and older at The Abbey (100 S. Eola Ave.) at 7 p.m. Munsey is expected to be announced as the team’s coach at that event, which will be attended by players.
