Two Central Florida communities, Hunter’s Creek and Winter Springs are on Money magazine’s latest list of the 100 best small towns in which to live. Hunter’s Creek, an unincorporated planned community in southwest Orange County , is ranked 21st, and the Seminole County city of Winter Springs is ranked 97th.
Hunter’s Creek, a golf-course community of about 45,000 residents, is 15 miles south of Orlando. The magazine highlighted its family-oriented events, proximity to theme parks and beaches and affordable housing. The magazine’s description of Winter Springs said the community lacks cohesiveness, “but the city is trying to fix that with a town center combining apartments with offices, restaurants, and a park.”
The rankings are based on job opportunities, schools, crime rates, economic strength, weather and activities. The magazine defines a small town as having fewer than 50,000 residents. Louisville, Colorado, a city of about 18,000 outside of Denver , topped this year’s list. No other Florida city made the list.
