If you’re a teenager and a music fan then make sure to come down to “The Science of Rock-n-Roll Academy” at The Orlando Science Center before Friday if you want to hear the most beautiful tunes in all of Central Florida.
The Orlando Science Center will host students from grades 7-9 during a summer academy devoted to Rock N Roll Science. As they “strum” along with experiences in the new guitar exhibit and music professionals, students will encounter a unique blend of science and music. They will also examine the science behind sound, how it is controlled from noise to music and how different materials and tuning can affect the sound quality of an instrument. That’s not all, they will also explore the world premiere exhibit, “Guitar: The Instrument that Rocked the World.” Through displays and activities, students will learn how the guitar plays an integral role in a band and in music in general. This exhibit explores the science and history behind guitars, including what goes into building a guitar to make it sound the way it does.
Students will also gate the rare opportunity to hear a presentation from an actual luthier (guitar maker) to learn about guitar-making firsthand. There are a number of hands-on activities included, like building their own cigar-box guitar. The academy also includes a field trip to Full Sail University, a premier art, music and film school in the area. Students will get a firsthand look at music production by going behind-the-scenes in Full Sail’s studio.
It goes on every day until Friday from 9am-4:30pm. Fees are $325/week for non-members and $280/week for members and include course materials and field trips. For Registration and Info call 407-514-2000
