SunRail’s approval spurs talk of link to Lake, northwest Orange

SunRail, the commuter train linking DeLand with Poinciana through downtown Orlando is not limited to those stops along the Interstate 4 corridor. The original idea has been improved upon and now there is a plan in Lake County for a smaller passenger-train service shuttling commuters into Orange County and connecting with SunRail. Unfortunately, that ambitious idea may hinge on Apopka’s buying into track improvements that would allow freight trains to move faster and eventually allow the proposed Orange Blossom Express passenger service between Eustis and downtown Orlando, with stops in Tavares and Apopka.
