Ripley’s Latest Attraction is a One-Bug Band

The Ripley’s Believe It or Not museum on International Drive has a brand new exhibit opening this week: a 1963 Volkswagen. That’s kind of unusual but not reaching the odd level for an odditorium, right? But this Beetle falls under the “art car” category because it’s covered in musical instruments, including drums, guitars, a piano, a saxophone, a trumpet, maracas, cymbals plus dozens of drumsticks. Most importantly, it is features a stage on top of the roof.
The name of this unique beetle is Pico de Gallo and it is from the personal collection of Harrod Blank, “the godfather of art cars,” says Edward Meyer, Ripley’s vice president of exhibits and archives. For years, Blank used the vehicle as his personal car, which is fully functional — as are the musical instruments attached.
