The backup point guard job behind Jameer Nelson has been claimed by Gilbert Arenas almost all season but it looks like that may be changing come game 3 against the Hawks. Coach Stan Van Gundy was asked after practice Thursday whether he would continue to use Arenas as the team’s backup point guard. Van Gundy stated that he still isn’t sure. “I don’t know what we’re doing,” Van Gundy said. “I haven’t decided exactly what we’re doing. I know Jameer’s going to play a lot of minutes. I know we’re going to use JJ Redick off the bench, I know we’re going to use Quentin Richardson and I know we’re going to use Ryan Anderson” Van Gundy said, “As far as what we do at the backup point I’m not totally sure.”
In Game 2, Arenas only recorded 6 minutes of playing time in which he went 1-for-3 from the field, didn’t have an assist and turned the ball over once. He didn’t enter the game at all in the second half, and Van Gundy elected to use small forward Hedo Turkoglu as the point guard when Nelson was out of the game.
