Osceola superintendent Grego resigns

Michael Grego, the current superintendent of the Osceola County School District resigned abruptly on Wednesday. Spokeswoman Dana Schafer confirmed that Grego tendered his resignation, therefore making it effective on May 31 2011. Schafer said a special Osceola County School Board meeting has been planned for 5PM friday evening “to discuss where we go from here.” It has not been made immediately clear what led to the superintendent’s departure, which Schafer said was surprising. In an emailed statement, School Board member Jay Wheeler praised Grego’s leadership, and said he was “a better man” for having worked with him. “I did in fact attempt to get him to reconsider his decision,” Wheeler sad. “To his credit he is doing what he thinks is in the best interest of his family.”
