New scanners help to identify possible criminals

Portable fingerprinting scanners are the latest wave of technology to help law enforcement agencies identify criminals. The Volusia County Sheriff’s office has 101 of these new fingerprint scanners, and at least one is on each shift. The best part is that it did not cost Florida taxpayers anything, they paid for them with money confiscated from convicted criminals. The scanners connect to the FDLE and FBI databases and will alert the officers if the person is a wanted criminal or a known or suspected terrorist. “It’s really not that complicated of a device” says Deputy Derek Macdonald, “It’s pretty simple, it takes their finger prints put is in to a database and tells us if they’re wanted or not. ”
