The climax of awards season occurred Sunday night as the world’s most famous actors and actresses packed the Kodak theater for the 83rd annual Academy Awards. The hosts of the event were Anne Hathaway and Best Actor nominee James Franco. They received mixed reviews from critics but overall the night was about celebrating the year in movies…and fashion. The big winner of the night was undoubtedly “The King’s Speech”, bringing home awards for Best Picture, Best Directer (Tom Hooper), Best Actor (Colin Firth) and Best Original Screenplay (David Seidler).
“Black Swan” star Natalie Portman proved to be Queen for the night bringing home the Best Actress award, while “The Fighter” co-stars Christian Bale and Melissa Leo both nabbed awards for their supporting roles. “The Social Network”, thought to be a heavyweight this year came away with awards for Best Adapted Screenplay (Aaron Sorkin) as well as Best Original Score (Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross) and Film Editing (Angus Wall and Kirk Baxter). Christopher Nolan’s mind bending thriller “Inception” collected awards in many technical categories such as Visual Effects, Sound Mixing, Sound Editing and Cinematography. “Toy Story 3″ won Best Animated Picture, which is Pixar’s sixth victory in the category.
